HBO has shared a first-look teaser for ER star Noah Wyle's new medical drama.

Wyle, known for playing John Carter in the acclaimed television series which ran from 1994 to 2009, will be playing a new doctor in The Pitt, set to hit screens in 2025.

In the teaser, viewers can see Carter back in medical uniform and assessing a patient in what appears to be an emergency situation.

The footage was shared as part of a wider teaser trailer for upcoming shows from HBO's streaming service Max.

Little is otherwise known about Wyle's character other than his status as a healthcare professional who is working in Pittsburgh.

The synopsis describes The Pitt as "a realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in today’s America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh".

The Pitt sees Wyle reunite with two former ER producers, R. Scott Gemmill and John Wells. Season one will consist of 15 episodes in total.

Announcing the series back in March, Channing Dungey, CEO and chairman of Warner Bros Television Group, said: "It’s no secret Scott, Noah, and John know how to make great television.

"When they came to us with the idea of reinvigorating the medical TV genre with a fresh, realistic look at today’s modern hospitals, we knew we had to jump on it.

"Their all-star collaboration, along with their impeccable storytelling and unwavering passion they bring to every project, is the perfect prescription for this show to become the next great medical drama."

Showtrial's Tracy Ifeachor and Curse of Chucky's Fiona Dourif also star in the show, with supporting cast members including Patrick Ball, Supriya Ganesh, Taylor Dearden, Isa Briones, Gerran Howell, Shabana Azeez and Katherine LaNasa.
