There are many times that people who are romantically involved with each other ask for space from their romantic partners. Are they not supposed to be partners that do everything together? Why the need for space?

What is the justification for a person asking for space from his or her partner?

Marriage or the romantic relationship of any sort is two different people coming together with each one having their own personality and interest. It is not fair to ask them to do everything together. Every relationship needs to have a boundary and personal space for people involved. This is healthy and makes the relationship thrive better. In fact it is a sign of healthy relationship where partners respect the personal space of each other.

I don't mind giving my woman space as far as her personal space doesn't trump the shared experience in the relationship. I let her do her own things and I also desire to be given the freedom to do my own thing. But shared times and activities should be more and greater than personal space.

I am married for last 25 years . And I would say that a big credit to this comfortable marriage goes to the personal space that we give each other. Yes, we have things that we love to do together and there are many other things that are not shared interest and we don't force them on each other. I feel that it works beautifully if you are open about these things through an honest communication.
